Early Years Foundation Stage

Pre-School

We are very fortunate to have Chollerton Pre-School, a private charity, on site. We work closely with them planning, liaising and working with the children.

Class 1 is a mixed age class with Reception and Year 1 children. The classroom is divided into a quieter work area and a water, sand, art and modelling activities area.

Curriculum

The curriculum that is provided takes full account of the Foundation Stage.

In the Prime Areas: -

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication and Language
  • Physical Development

and the Specific Areas: -

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Fun and enjoyment are seen to be very important in the education of under fives. Activities are carefully planned to provide the children with opportunities to develop concept, skills and knowledge, which will form a firm foundation for later learning and transition into Key Stage 1 and the National Curriculum. They engage in child initiated and adult directed activities. Wherever possible we use our outdoor environment to enhance our learning.

Throughout the Reception Year children are observed and assessed. At the end of Reception children are assessed against the Foundation Stage Profile
