Sports Premium

What is Sports Premium?

The Government is providing 150 million per year, for two years, directly to schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and P.E. for all their children. The funding is ring-fenced and can only be spent on P.E. and sport provision in schools.

Sports Premium Funding 2016 - 2017

Last year the school received £8126.00

The funding was used as follows:
  • provide a specialist P.E. teacher each half term to support and enhance the delivery of the P.E. curriculum.
  • purchase additional P.E. resources.
  • provide professional development opportunities for staffing P.E. and sport.
  • increase opportunities for children to work with children from other schools.
  • provide after school clubs run by specialist P.E. teachers.
  • provide transport so children can take part in competitions with other schools in the partnership.
  • provide Forest School activities for all age groups; developing physical development and team co-operation.
  • to maintain outdoor apparatus, replacing sections.

Impact of Provision

The provision made in 2016 - 2017 and the positive impact on the confidence, pride, physical ability and health will be sustained in 2017 - 2018, by continuing to be part of the Tynedale Sports Premium Funding and by ensuring half-termly planning enables children to partake in sporting events and opportunities.

Our children, through the provision of a specialist P.E. Teacher, enables us to offer a variety of sports and skills. These skills are reflected in the classroom through physical fine motor control and through the attitude to have a go and persevere.  Self-esteem and confidence are boosted and this is transferred to work in the classroom. The children also develop their stamina and physical ability to cope with a demanding curriculum. Physical health and well-being are enhanced. The children engage in fun activities and develop a respect for sport and physical activity.

Children are given the opportunity through the Sports Premium funding to travel to competitions and events. This instills team work, leadership, participation and skills as well as pride of being part of Chollerton School's Community. These events have led to children practising to perfect their skills and included all children.

Achievements are celebrated at School; both the good team spirit and the taking part.

We were awarded the Gold Award from the School Games Award. We also won Gold at this year's skipping festival.

As a small school, 38 pupils, we are proud of our children's determination, stamina and team work.
