Consultations and Reports
Parent / Teacher Consultations take place twice a year with a written report in the Summer Term. For children in Year 2 this will include the National Curriculum Attainment Levels. Parents are encouraged to make appointments with teachers if they have any queries or concerns, when they arise, and not wait until consultations.
Reception children parents have consultations with Mrs Davey, our E.Y.F.S. teacher before their child starts school and after their first term to report back evidence from observations as the child has settled in.
We encourage the children to share with you the work they have been doing in school. This could be in the form of playing games to help with spelling, number work and tables. Children could also be helped to find out about the current topic.
We value parental involvement in our reading programme. We ask you to 'share' books with your children for approximately ten minutes at least 3 times a week.
Topic letters are issued each half term, for parents to support their child's learning. Information regarding ways to help your child will be given regularly.
On occasions the children make educational visits to support their learning in particular areas of the curriculum. For some activities a voluntary contribution will be requested.
Morning session: 8.55am - 12.00pm Afternoon session: 1.00pm - 3.15pm
The school opens at 8.40am giving any child who wishes, the opportunity to choose an appropriate activity before lessons start. All children are expected to be in school by 8.55am for registration. Once on the school premises no child is allowed to leave until 3.15pm unless permission is sought from the Head Teacher and a parent or authorised carer collects the child from school.
Absences from School
If your child is absent from school a telephone message is sufficient. Unexplained absences, especially lengthy absences, must be looked into by the Education Welfare Officer. There were no unauthorised absences from this school in 2015/2016.
If a child is involved in an accident or is taken ill at school, arrangements will be made, if necessary, for immediate medical attention, and parents will be informed as soon as possible.
Alternatively, a parent / authorised carer will be contacted to enable them to take the child home. All parents are requested to provide an emergency telephone number and address. This information should always be kept up to date.
Administration of medicines must be discussed with the Head Teacher. Children who need constant medication will require special provision, which can be organised with parents.
Lunch time plays a very important part in the life of the school with children having their meals in family groups in a relaxed and orderly manner. Currently all the children remain at school during the lunch hour, and whilst it is preferred for the children to have a school meal, it is possible for children to bring a packed lunch. School meals are cooked on the premises and the kitchen staff ensure that the best possible meals are provided to give children a healthy, well balanced diet. Lunch consists of a two course meal. The menu is carefully designed to satisfy the nutritional needs of young children. Special diets or allergies can also catered for. Particular attention is give to teaching good table manners and the correct use of cutlery.
The price of school meals, at present, is £2.20 per day (£11.00 per week) and is payable on a Monday morning in advance. Payments in advance can also be made monthly or half termly by arrangement with the school office, using cash or cheques made payable to Northumberland County Council. Please put money is named purse or envelope.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will receive a free school meal under the new Government intiative which came into effect from 1st September 2014.
Milk is free to children who are under 5 for the whole term and will be approximately £1.00 per week, payable termly in advance for all other children except those eligible for free school meals when it is free. There are no reductions for any cartons not consumed due to absence.
